Community Update | Village-Based Disability Engagement Forum – Vela Village, Ward 11
Today, the Nkomwa Foundation Trust (NFT), in collaboration with the South Western Region Gender Network, conducted a continuous Village-Based Disability Engagement Forum in Vela Village, Ward 11.
The forum was attended by 25 participants and provided an important platform for community engagement on disability inclusion and rights awareness.
Key topics covered included:
- Definition of disability
- Types of disabilities
- Disability rights
- Appropriate disability terminology
- Barriers faced by persons with disabilities
- Relevant legal and policy frameworks
- Safeguarding issues
- Reporting and referral mechanisms
The programme received valuable support from the District Development Coordinator’s Office, the Department of Social Development, the Gwanda Rural District Council through the Ward Councillor, and the Ministry of Health and Child Care, represented by Village Health Workers.
NFT remains committed to promoting disability inclusion, protecting the rights of persons with disabilities, and strengthening community-based disability initiatives.
