DISABILITY PRIDE MONTH

As Disability Pride Month is coming to a close, as Nkomwa Foundation Trust, here’s something we would love for more people to remember:

Disability is not just something that happens to “other people.”

Disability can be:
Visible – someone who uses a wheelchair, white cane, prosthetic limb, or has a limb difference.

Invisible – such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia,  chronic pain, hearing loss, mental health conditions, epilepsy, or diabetes.

Temporary – recovering from surgery, a broken leg, or an injury.

Situational – trying to hear in a noisy airport, carrying a sleeping child so you only have one hand free, or reading your phone in bright sunlight.

Permanent – disabilities that are lifelong or long-term.

The truth is, disability is part of the human experience. Many of us will experience disability ourselves, or care for someone who does, at some point in our lives.

That’s why accessibility is not a favour.
It is not an accommodation for a few.
It’s good design. It’s good business. It’s good leadership. And it’s the right thing to do.

As Disability Pride Month ends, let’s not leave inclusion behind with the calendar.

Let’s keep building workplaces, communities, products, and experiences where everyone belongs.

Because the world works better with us.
