Gwanda – Jairos Jiri Association in Gwanda is now incapacitated   due to lack of funding which has caused total collapse to some of the projects like poultry and piggery.

The Association used to be a centre of excellence and admiration to many as it provided a training ground to boys and girls and men and women with disabilities .It created employment to a number of persons with disabilities.

Jairos Jiri Association   was constructed on the mission to promote and empower people with disabilities to become full contributors to development, however Gwanda centre is failing to fulfil the mission hence sidelining the disabled people found in the region.

The organisation used to run different projects like poultry and piggery, which now no longer exists, grinding mill and farming they are now done on small rate compared to the time when the place was established.

Equipment to assist on the farm  are now lying desolate as none of them is still functioning like tractors, 2 water reservoirs and a pick-up truck  however none of them is still working . Enough functioning   farm equipment like tractor, 2 water reservoirs   and also pick-up truck for the transportation of farm produce to the market   however none of them still functioning today

 The farm manager   Ms Nonhlanhla Mpofu stated that as an institution they are financially handicapped   which has caused them to fail to run all the projects at a full capacity.

“As an institution we are financially handicapped which makes it a challenge to operate all the projects that we used to have” she said.

She stated that when proper funding is obtained there   are high hopes of the revival of the place.

The retired  Chairperson  of Jairos Jiri Mr Ncube stated that the challenges  faced  by Jairos Jiri Association  are as a result  of lack of funding to run the projects  therefore it affects the day to day operations  of the Association.
