Bulawayo – Hydrocephalus Association Trust of Zimbabwe Director Dr Lyn Ndlovu, recently hosted a Christmas party for more than one hundred admitted children suffering from spinabifida and hydrocephalus condition at Mpilo Hospital, in an effort to boost their moral.
The colourful celebrations were themed, ‘Accessibility to all’, and that brought smiles to the children, their parents and members of staff.

Mpilo Principal Nursing Officer, Phineas Sithole said that the early Christmas present brought joy and relief to the admitted children, who are accompanied by their mothers and relatives.
“Pastor Lyn has organised this Christmas celebration and brought us shanty that is being used to assist the children with hydrocephalus condition. She also renovated their ward where those dressed with shanty sleep, having also done a lot of work and the whole of the southern region benefited from her supplies.
These are some of the stakeholders in the provision of care to the children, who sometimes go out of their way like her, the focal person for Hydrocephalus Association. So I must thank her very much for coming again with this initiative.” Said PNO Sithole
Hydrocephalus refers to an abnormal condition in which cerebrospinal fluid collects in the ventricles of the brain. In infants it can cause abnormally rapid growth of the head, bulging fontanelles and a small face, while in adults the symptoms are primarily neurological.
Dr Ndlovu also said that she was determined to help children living with the condition for as long as she lives.
“Our organisation is Hydrocephalas Association that is striving to support children living with spina bifida and hydrocephalus ailment, making sure that they receive psycho support, spiritual, financial and anything they want, that we can provide.
We are here for them so that they can have access to education, medication, proper nutrition and all that other children are having.
I have seen that a lot of them, because of lack of resources are dying at a tender age, not because of the condition, but if we work together in mobilising resources these kids get early diagnosis and proper support may go far.
The children are having a wonderful time and are enjoying their Christmas. It is powerful and we are witnessing the hand of the Lord.” Said Dr Ndlovu.
Hydrocephalus Association Trust also hosted International SPINA BIFIDO and Hydrocephalus day 2023, at the same venue, where Matabeleland Nomads Golf club captain Edson Ngaaseke, presented the 44 shunts that they acquired for the hydrocephalus patients. The donation assisted the victims and also this gave parents of the affected peace.
