Bulawayo – In an incident of total negligence to vulnerable people, a Bulawayo grandmother kicked out her daughter in law, together with her disabled son, turning a blind eye to relatives and children with disability.

The unemployed daughter in law and her husband, who is son to the vicious old woman, tried in vain to find accommodation, prompting the mother to seek court order to evict them. The mother of four was forced to sleep in the open with her children having been forced out by her mother in -law in Bulawayo’s Nguboyenja suburb recently.

The mother in law opened up to Choice News Africa, that her daughter in law does not have an iota of respect.

“Yes I evicted them, my daughter in law and my son, because her wife is so disrespectful, because she is always involved in a fist fighting with my son, thereby disturbing my peace. I found it better to live without them in my life,” said Faides Tembo, mother to Paleroy.

Thelma Nkomo a mother of four with her first born child with disability, found themselves homeless after being chased out of family home by Faides Tembo, her mother in-law after a domestic dispute that exposed them to brave the windy and chilly night outside.

Nkomo’s husband Paleroy Tembo is unemployed, their children whose ages, are 8, 6 and 2 years, with a six months old baby are now homeless and in need of urgent help.

Ms Tembo sought intervention from the courts after a dispute with her son and she successfully applied for an eviction order to chase him and his family out of her house.

Paleroy told Choice News Africa, that he was not against the Court ruling to vacate his parents’ home, but it’s only that he doesn’t have money for rentals.

“I love my mother so much, just like any family disputes do happen, I found myself in this predicament. I am not working. Once I get anything to sustain my life, I am prepared to leave this place like now.

But I am stuck. Last night we slept outside in the open with my family. I have got nowhere else to go, as you can see, my property is outside. My mother got an eviction order against me to leave her house, so I am trying to find an alternative place with my family. “Lamented Paleroy.

His wife also echoed the same sentiments.

“Yes we slept outside with my family because she got an eviction order from the court to move us out. My immediate need for now is shelter and food for my children.

We have not been in good talking terms with my mother-in-law for over nine years now. Last night was our fourth time being chased away. As you can see my first born child is disabled, hence he needs special care.” Said Thelma.

It was after the intervention by Joel Ncube, a residence Social Welfare representative, who frantically begged Faides to have mercy and a heart to forgive her son.

“My dear sister, whatever wrong your son mighty have done, please allow him more time to look for an alternative accommodation. How will you feel, if tomorrow you receive news that one of your grandchildren has died by sleeping outside in the open.

It takes a community to raise a child. Allow them space maybe till the end of this month. We are concerned about these young innocent children. The whole community is very concerned and hearing that last night they slept in the open. This is not good for us all.” said Mr Ncube.

Paleroy was later allowed to temporarily put up inside the premises, but out of the house, inside the garage for a few days, as it was now against the court ruling.

Pick Nkomwa of NFT, an organisation that work with people with disability, told Choice News Africa that these are challenges they encounter on a daily basis in their line of duty.
