Maphisa – Fifty (50) persons with visual impairment disabilities in Matobo district, recently benefitted from audio and braille bibles that were donated and distributed by Nkomwa Foundation, a disability organisation stationed in Gwanda town of Matabeleland South province.

Blindness or visual impairment is the inability to see anything including light. Blindness can be partial or complete and with complete blindness one cannot see at all. There are several factors that contribute to blindness among others including glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts and tumors. Visual impairment severely impacts the quality of life among adult populations.
Persons with visual impairment continue to suffer stigmatisation and discrimination in their daily lives. Complete blindness requires approaching life in a new way and learning new skills like reading braille.
Nkomwa Foundation Trust District Coordinator Mr Whiteman Moyo applauded the organisations for the intervention at the right time.
“The audio bibles are in simple and clear language understood by every person in the society”, said Moyo.
One of the beneficiaries, Sikhumbuzo Ndlovu expressed his gratitude after receiving the audio bible.
“Today it’s like a dream, I never thought after losing my sight I will have my own gadget to hear the word of God. Relying on abazukulu to read the read the bible for you is not dependable as most of the time they will be away. I am happy for this, Inkosi ilibusise bantwabami,” said Ndlovu.
The Programmes and Communications Manager Miss Monitor Beloved Ncube appreciated the Matobo community and sister organisation for the opportunity afforded.
“I am humbled by the support from our resource partner Bible Society of Zimbabwe for always remembering our Province with this intervention. Also our sister organisations Jairos Jiri Association and Matobo Youth Development initiative for supporting the implementation of this intervention, together we can”, concluded Ncube.
