NFT Partners Local Authorities to Champion Inclusive Infrastructure Development
By Staff Reporter
Nkomwa Foundation Trust (NFT) has joined hands with local authorities in Matabeleland South and North to champion inclusive infrastructure development, donating construction materials to ensure public facilities are accessible to all, including persons with disabilities.
The initiative, which saw NFT contribute to projects in Bubi, Gwanda Rural District and the Municipality of Gwanda, underscores the organisation’s commitment to fostering social inclusion and universal accessibility.

In Bubi District, Matabeleland North, NFT donated 10 bags of cement and 40 litres of diesel to support the construction of ramps at the local community hall and the Department of Social Development Office. Similarly, in Ward 18 under Gwanda Rural District Council, the organisation donated 10 bags of cement for the construction of a community hall meant to serve as a multipurpose centre for local residents.
Councillor for Ward 18, who is also Gwanda Rural District Council chairperson and Second Vice President of Zimbabwe Rural Local Authourities, Mr Mphathiswa Ncube, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the support, saying:
“Thank you so much, God bless you and your organization. Such love is unheard of, may the pocket that gives never run dry.”

Meanwhile, in partnership with the Municipality of Gwanda, NFT donated 12 bags of cement and mesh wire to facilitate the building of a ramp at the council’s housing office, ensuring residents living with disabilities can access services with dignity.

Speaking on the significance of these contributions, NFT Director Mr. Pick Nkomwa said:
“As a disability organization we feel we have an obligation to be part and parcel of the socio-economic development of our communities. Gone are the days when we wait for something to be done for us. Where we can, we are meaningfully participating and we take ownership of these projects.
“We believe these are steps towards improved infrastructure that is universally accessible to all.”

The gesture comes at a time when Zimbabwe is making deliberate efforts to align development projects with the principles of inclusivity outlined in the National Disability Policy of 2021, which emphasizes the need for universally accessible infrastructure across communities.
Local authorities in the districts welcomed the partnership, noting that the donations would go a long way in promoting inclusive service delivery.
The collaborative effort is also in line with Vision 2030, which places social inclusion and equal participation at the centre of national development.
By contributing to the construction of ramps and community facilities, NFT is not only addressing immediate accessibility barriers but also setting a precedent for other stakeholders to invest in disability-friendly infrastructure.
This partnership highlights a shift towards community-driven development, where organisations, councils, and residents work together to ensure no one is left behind.
