Gwanda – The Nkomwa Foundation Trust (NFT) will on Friday, 31st October 2025, commemorate its 5th Anniversary Celebrations at the Nkomwa–Nkemeletje Disability Centre in Mapate, Ward 16, Gwanda Rural District, in an event expected to draw over 200 participants from across Matabeleland South and beyond.
The milestone celebration, themed around advancing disability inclusion and empowerment, will bring together stakeholders, partners, beneficiaries, and community members to reflect on NFT’s remarkable five-year journey of championing the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities (PWDs).

Speaking ahead of the event, NFT Director, Mr. Pick Nkomwa, said the occasion marks a major achievement for the organization and the disability movement in Zimbabwe.
“The 5th year anniversary celebration marks the milestones we have achieved in disability programming in Zimbabwe. We never thought we would reach this far — the journey encountered myriad challenges; however, with determination, community roots, and God’s grace, we have come this far,” said Mr. Nkomwa.
He emphasized that this year’s anniversary carries special significance as it will be held in the rural heart of Gwanda, where NFT has established deep community partnerships.
“For the past four years, we celebrated in urban setups, but this year we are going down to our people in the rural communities — they are the backbone of our work,” he added.
The celebration will take place at NFT’s own land, the Nkomwa–Nkemeletje Disability Centre, which serves as a hub for disability inclusion initiatives in the district.
The event will feature performances, traditional dances, and exhibitions showcasing the talents and creativity of persons with disabilities and local community members.
“On the day, we expect joy, networking, and dancing as we prove to the world that persons with disabilities have the capacity to drive their own agenda,” said Mr. Nkomwa. “There will be entertainment from our own disability constituency and the community, and we invite everyone to join us in this golden opportunity.”
The event is anticipated to be graced by Gwanda South Member of Parliament and Deputy Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Dr. Omphile Marupi, alongside local leadership, development partners, and representatives from government ministries and civil society organizations.
Since its establishment, Nkomwa Foundation Trust has grown into one of the leading voices for disability inclusion in Zimbabwe, focusing on empowerment, education, health, and livelihood support for persons with disabilities in Matabeleland South and beyond.
As NFT celebrates this milestone, the organization reaffirms its commitment to ensuring that no one is left behind, continuing its mission to create a society where persons with disabilities are fully recognized, included, and empowered.
