Gwanda – It was all smiles with tears of joy, when Nkomwa Foundation Trust (NFT) donated two bags of cement to revamp a treaded house of a physically challenged granny Thoba Mlilo (78) in Phakama Suburb of Gwanda.
Mlilo’s right leg was surgically remove in 2006 at United Bulawayo Hospital (UBH). This affected her eyesight and she is now completely visually challenged after going for several ophthalmological surgeries.

Nkomwa Foundation Trust started by donating a wheelchair to the old Mlilo and now its cement to revamp the veranda for her free movement to and from the house.
“I was amputated in early 2000 and it affected my eye-sight. I had a hard pill to swallow for more than 15 years up until NFT came to my rescue and gave me a wheelchair to ease my painful experience. Today they are here to ramp my stepped verandah by constructing a ramp. I am overjoyed that I will soon be able to walk around my yard and beyond.” Said Mlilo.
The exciting day did not end in Phakama, It proceeded to Garikai suburbs were Angelina Mangena (51) received her crutches, after a long time of using borrowed walking sticks. Angelina was fractured in 2018 at her homestead. She borrowed crutches from her friend as she could not afford to buy her own. She was ecstatic after NFT presented her with crutches.
“I am delighted today, I now own my own crutches. I can now walk around knowing that I do not have debts here around. I now challenge the NFT not to end its good work here. Communities are overwhelmed by people with disabilities in need of similar help.” said Mangena.
Ward 8 leader, Councillor Ntuthuko Ndebele concurrently handed over the donations to the ladies in the presence of NFT team and other community members.
“As the host Ward Councillor, I salute the remarkable work that NFT is doing, as they are not only in my ward. People with disabilities are sidelined by several communities and the society at large. This organization sweeps away that mentality as they thrive for equity amongst human beings. To my people let us make sure people with disabilities are involved in every aspect of life (meetings, sports and education etc.). Noone should infringe PWDS rights.” says Cllr Ndebele.” He concluded.
