Gwanda – One of Gwanda’s traditional leaders of Matabeleland South province, Chief Nhlamba, whose name is Jeffrey Ndlovu, has applauded Nkomwa Foundation Trust and the entire staff, for what he termed tireless efforts in educating parents with children and relatives, looking after children with disabilities.

Chief Nhlamba, poured his heart out to Choice News Africa during one of the disability advocacy training workshops that was recently facilitated by Federation of Organisations of Disabled People in Zimbabwe (FODPZ), whose workshop objective is to empower people with disability, with information, on their rights.

“Nkomwa Foundation Trust, opened our eyes and hearts, as Matabeleland South communities, on the importance of looking after our children with disabilities. Many people used to hide their children with disabilities in their houses, but after the introduction of sensitization training activities by NFT, many families have come out in the open.
I have no proper words to express my gratitude to the man called Pick Nkomwa, but only God and the ancestors can reward him. We have nothing as villagers, but our prayers daily request for the blessing of this young man, who decided to have sleepless nights, trying to improve the lives of people with disabilities.” Said Chief Nhlamba.
People with disabilities have been shunned and isolated from the public eyes either by their parents or relatives, as it was classified as a curse or belief to conceive a child with disability, thereby forcing those with such children to confine them indoors, far from public discernments.
The recently held training workshops in both Matabeleland North and Bulawayo metropolitan province, aimed at empowering people with disabilities.
